We have strong ties to the communities where our students reside. The co-operative learning program at the school ties both the school organization and the students to local businesses.
Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
Shawsheen is a vocational high school with strong ties to the communities where our students reside. The co-operative learning program at the school ties both the school organization and the students to local businesses. Students enter the workforce within their chosen trades in their 11th grade year, and continue on in said cooperative jobs through their 12th grade year.
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
Our goals are to increase school safety and increase the use of instructional technology to engage students, and provide them with the soft skills that will be necessary for success beyond their secondary education.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
Using data to provide students with specific and targeted instruction to meet their diverse learning needs.
Explain how Title I funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
Title I funds are used to provide students with additional targeted support in math, English and science through after school and summer programs. Additionally, the funds are used to provide teachers with important training and professional development on best practices for supporting those students.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
We regularly assess a students in a variety of ways, including pre- and post- testing in mathematics and English, tracking of attendance, and co-op placement.
