Monroe Intermediate School's culture is one of a family atmosphere. The students are first and foremost treated like they are a part of a family. This enables teachers to provide the kind of instruction to them that they would provide for their own personal children. Expectations are high and so is performance.
Describe specific programs in place to ensure that families are involved in the success of your school and students.
Some of the programs that encourage parental participation are:
1. PTA Meetings
2. Parent/Teacher Conferences
3. After School Tutoring for students
4. Computer Classes for Parents
5.Summer Enrichment Programs for Preschoolers
6.PACERS Projects

Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
PACERS/Project-Based Learning
1.Greenhouse Project/This project allowed leaders from the community to work with the school to build and maintain a viable greenhouse that currently grows plants that in turn produces revenue for the school. It is managed by both the students and community stakeholders.
2.Garden Project/This project allows community stakeholders to work with the school by providing young learners with valuable information and skills that has produced some of the best watermelons, peas, okra, collards, turnips, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, sugar cans, and beans in the south! This effort has also produced revenue and delicious moments for school and the community!
3.Community Documentation Project
Describe your philosophy of school change or improvement.
It is the philosophy of Monroe Intermediate School to do whatever it takes to make sure that students are well rounded learners and are prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing. We know that in order to remain viable and relevant, change is often in order. When a strategy or effort does not produce positive results, "We drop it like its hot!"
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
Monroe Intermediate School's top two goals are:
1. To ensure that the percentage of students who score proficiently on high stakes assessments moves higher next year than it was this year
2. To build a regulation sized gymnasium so that it can host events at home rather than having to compete in someone else's facilities.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
Monroe Intermediate School has always taken pride in the fact that hard works pays wonderful dividends, but it also realizes with the odds that it has always faced, that there is an Unseen Eye that has watched over it through some really tough times. Excellence is just the way that Monroe Intermediate School thinks, but this excellence is also supported by The Most Excellent One!
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
College and Career Readiness Standards provides teachers with the framework needed to ensure that students are ready to be productive regardless of their endeavors. Whether students decide to go to college or become productive parts of the workforce, they are taught based upon standards that will equip them with the tools needed to "build success."
Explain how Title I funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
Monroe Intermediate School is a complete Title I school. 100% of our support is provided by Title I funds. Without such fund, the school could not operate. The following are some of the most appreciated support that Title I provides:
1. Teacher's Salaries
2. Paraprofessionals/Aids
3.Textbooks
4. Copy Machines
5.Materials and Supplies for Classrooms
The list goes on. Basically Title I makes possible the success on Monroe Intermediate School in more ways than can be imagined.

Identify the critical professional development activities you use to improve teaching and student learning.
Monroe Intermediate provides much of its own professional development for teachers. Professional learning teams attend trainings beyond the school. The learning that is gleaned from these opportunities is brought back to the faculty and shared during Data /Grade Level Meetings.
These meetings consist of strategies such as Bloom's Hierarchy of Cognitive Levels to promote higher order thinking, the use of writing to promote comprehension, etc.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
It is quite apparent that "data drives" instruction. Monroe Intermediate School uses the most recent data to determine next instructional steps for students. This data is discussed at great length during regular Data Meetings where instructors are provided opportunities to gain helpful strategies regarding instruction in connection with the data.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
Monroe Intermediate School's culture is one of a family atmosphere. The students are first and foremost treated like they are a part of a family. This enables teachers to provide the kind of instruction to them that they would provide for their own personal children. Expectations are high and so is performance.
The relationship between the school and the community is one of trust and accountability. The school expects the parents to do their part and the parents expect the school to di its part to educate the whole child. The children also have a high standard of excellence that they are encouraged to pursue every day that the schoolhouse doors are open!
It is the ultimate mission of Monroe Intermediate School to grow productive citizens that will one day do great things in the society in which they live.
