Describe specific programs in place to ensure that families are involved in the success of your school and students.
School Information Session nights for families are mandatory prior to students enrolling in the school. Testing Information Nights, Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences are other opportunities for parents to be on campus. Monthly bulletins as well as frequent emails are sent to keep parents aware of campus updates and news.
Describe your philosophy of school change or improvement.
School improvement should be based on needs of the student body. Staff flexibility and being aware and understanding the individual and group needs is key to making changes to processes or procedures that make for a better learning experience.
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
The top two goals of Early College Academy for the next two years are to regain any foundational learning lost due to the Covid pandemic and to increase the number of students graduating with an Associate's degree.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
Establishing and maintaining a team of faculty and staff that all have the same common goal is critical in the success of Early College Academy. Teachers, administrators, clerks, secretaries, and resource officers discuss and understand the mission and vision and make decisions accordingly.
Explain how ESEA federal funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
ESEA funds have helped Early College Academy close the gap by providing funds for ACT materials such as ACT preparation books and student workshops. Faculty have been able to attend local and national conferences which strengthen their knowledge of available resources and technology as well as enhancing their pedagogy.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
The school uses student data such as grades and standardized tests to determine placement for high school and college classes. In addition, data is used to place students in their most appropriate ACT Prep classes.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
Students at our school view learning as an opportunity rather than a task. Our teachers and parents support this idea which reinforces that it is the expectation for all students.
