Improving Instruction Through the POWER of the Mind, Brain, and Teacher Leadership Model

Thursday January 28, 2016
1:00 - 2:00 PM
Room 362

This high-energy presentation will share a fresh, inspiring approach for applying principles of teacher leadership within a neurobiological framework for learning and leading that forms a firm basis for improving instruction and student achievement. Dr. Donna Wilson will explore a “spectrum” of teacher leadership opportunities to enhance collective efficacy and put the diverse talents and skills of colleagues to work, actualizing a shared vision of school improvement. Participants will be introduced to the POWER model for teacher leadership, which emphasizes implications of brain plasticity for lifelong learning, opportunities for purposeful collaboration, working smarter by applying metacognitive strategies, fostering a positive environment, and building on successful results. School and district officials implementing this model for teacher leadership based on the new science on how people learn can better support effective teaching and leading from preschool through high school.
