This presentation reimagines a school district of 28,000 students and community partner’s efforts to work collaboratively for the benefit of the most marginalized students and families in this district. Stable housing and resources are clearly associated with a multitude of beneficial factors that will be addressed in this presentation. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how these grassroots initiatives have helped families and students reduce the number of housing transitions, as well as getting students and families connected with other advantageous resources such as food programs, mental and physical health services, insurance, employment, utilities, and communities of faith.

David Aramovich

David Aramovich has done direct service in the field of social work for 39 years. The first stage of his social work career was working with the severe and persistently mentally ill adult population. For the last 21 years he has provided social work services in schools. He is currently the McKinney-Vento Homeless liaison for the Shawnee Mission School District
Maggie Haghirian

Maggie Haghirian, Kesher KC Director, has been working in the area of social services for the past 20 years. She has a Master's in Social Work and has worked with individuals in the criminal justice system, those that have experienced domestic violence, Ryan White participants, and individuals facing housing instability.
John McKinney

Former teacher and building principal. Current district-level administrator. 23 years in public education working with students and families at all levels
Laura Stadler-Tobaben

Laura Stadler-Tobaben, Family Empowerment Coordinator with Jewish Family Services has worked in nonprofit services for over 12 years supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, survivors of domestic violence and families experiencing housing instability.
