A student's background, experiences, and choices can impact his or her current and future opportunities. This session invites participants to examine assumptions about student backgrounds and to explore what educators can do at their school and classroom to be intentional about overcoming at-risk student obstacles. Objectives include 1. A deeper knowledge & understanding of how at risk-factors, including trauma, impact students in a negative manner. 2. A broader perspective of the number of at-risk factors that exist in our school (and sometimes even created by our schools). 3. A simple model, that includes the powerful tool of empathy, to create a plan to support students through trauma and support other at-risk factors.
