How to Improve Student Achievement and Educator Capacity Through "Data Chats"

This educator presentation is used to build capacity in district and building level personnel through data-driven discussion that will lead to implementing research based strategies to increase student achievement. This is an interactive session allowing for participants to develop strategies to build collective efficacy amongst teachers and leaders in a school building or district. Participants will how to create structures to brainstorm, discuss, and evaluate instructional practices to monitor and improve student achievement. Additionally, participants will learn how to collect, evaluate, and analyze data from common assessments. The data will be used to determine trends in specific instructional areas and develop action steps to implement instructional strategies to improve student achievement. Schools or districts will develop a process for teams to collaborate and develop action steps on how to implement this process in their district or school.

Bryan Adams

I have been an Elementary and Middle School Principal for nine years and have used these strategies discussed in our session to help our schools successfully improve student achievement and growth. The strategies presented during this session have helped our school be a 2020 National ESEA Distinguished School. Additionally, a Tennessee Department of Education "Reward School" in back-to-back years 2018-19 and 20-17-18 for being in the top %5 in the state of Tennessee for Achievement and Growth.
Amy Gullion

Amy Gullion is in her 16th year in education. She is currently serving as the Federal Programs Supervisor for Wilson County Schools in Tennessee and has been in the position for four years. Prior to that she was a K-12 Literacy Consultant for the Tennessee Department of Education. Amy has also served as an elementary instructional coach, interventionist, and classroom teacher.
