Developing your COVID-19 Responsive Trajectory: Revitalizing Education

One of the roles of an educational leader is to use data to create a positive learning climate for students, teachers, and staff. This implies that schools will be diverse, equitable and inclusive, where all cultures, ethnic/racial groups, genders, national origin, religious/spiritual beliefs are accepted and respected, free of bullying, sexual harassment and/or verbal and physical abuse. During the Covid 19 pandemic, students were quarantined and for the most part isolated from these in-person issues. Students may have felt protected from bullying and harassment during quarantine and now are reluctant to go to school and face these types of treatment. Administrators must address these feelings of fear to return to the physical classroom that students may be experiencing. This interactive workshop covers strategies for leaders to plan a trajectory for students to be willing to return to school by acknowledging student voice and creating a welcoming school environment and climate.

Dan Jesse

For over 30 years, Dr. Jesse has designed, implemented and evaluated equity audit systems, school improvement systems, district improvement systems and national recognition protocols across the United States for schools, districts, State Education Education Agencies and regional service providers such as RELs, EACs, and Comprehensive Centers. He has deep experience in data-based decision making and recently adapted the WEEAC Equity Compass Review system to be used virtually in the context of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Jan Perry Evenstad

Dr. Perry Evenstad is a Professor at the Metropolitan State University of Denver in the Department of Elementary, Linguistically Diverse, K-12 and Secondary Education. She is curently the Executive Director of the Region IV Equity Assistance Center (WEEAC), and recently led the Center during the COVID-19 Pandemic, when the Center continued to deliver services virtually. She has also developed numerous online presentations related to equity-related topics such as implementation of new Title IX requirements, data-based decision making, bullying prevention, race equity, serving English Lanaguage Learners and working with Indigenous populations.
