Bridging the Gap: A Blueprint to Funding and Design of Programming to Address Learning Loss

Educational leaders must reimagine how after-school and summer "real estate" can be captured. Schools and districts must find effective, eligible, and innovative ways to integrate available funding to provide evidence-based, extended, and rigorous opportunities for students who have academic, behavioral, social, and/or daily life needs. This presentation will provide the blueprint needed for leaders to design, fund, implement, and evaluate an after-school and/or summer program that is specifically designed to meet the unique learning loss needs that are a result of the pandemic. Participants will learn the benefits of planning a proactive intervention program versus a reactive, federally-mandated band aid. The blueprint and program components align with all federal regulations related to available school funding. Participants will leave the session with a customized plan to meet their own unique needs.

Christopher Akers

Mr. Akers has facilitated camps for over ten years, particularly working with students with more significant disabilities and behavior problems as well as autism; critical moment training, socio-emotional training to educators for over 20 years; and leads a team of student supports at a special education center.
William Dreibelbis

Mr. Dreibelbis works in systems building, and curriculum; is the leader of large divisions of special education, federal and state regulations, professional development, and socio-emotional learning.
Patricia Gerber

Ms. Gerber is the Urban School District Central Office Administrator; Title I, Title IIA, Title III, Title IV; System Designer; Program Development and Evaluation; and Grant Writer.
