W. Howard Brown

W. Howard Brown, Ph.D. has been the Director of Grants for the Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute for the past 12 years. Prior to this position, Dr. Brown was on the faculty of St. Lawrence University, both in Canton, NY, where he taught African history and Swahili and in Kenya, where he served 10 years as an associate director of the Kenya Semester Program. He has also been a high school principal in Miami, Florida. He recently was appointed as coordinator of Clemson University’s Non-Profit Leadership certificate program. As Director of Grants, Dr. Brown is responsible for the development of grants from ideas and writing to implementation of grant-supported projects. He conducts grant writing training, mentoring training and group facilitation for Institute staff and partnering organizations that include the SC Department of Education, Department of Juvenile Justice and SC 4-H. He is involved in the development of academic programs for students and teachers and delivers capacity building trainings to community and faith-based organizations.
