Restorative Practices To Create Learning Spaces That Help All Students Achieve

Out of school behavioral consequences create gaps in students’ learning and threaten equal educational outcomes for all students. This presentation will show participants how to balance a need for proactive climate and culture solutions with the reality of limited staffing resources in ways that lead to improved academic outcomes in Title I schools. Overrepresentation of students of color in suspension and expulsion statistics is a problem in School Districts that serve Title I students in the U.S., including Cheyenne’s school district, the Clark County School District (CCSD). CCSD tasked Cheyenne with implementing restorative practices in ways other schools could replicate. Cheyenne learned how to address social and emotional barriers students and teachers experience that impede high achievement and equal educational outcomes. This presentation will help teachers and leaders overcome climate challenges, keep kids in school, and maintain continuous learning for all students.
