Leading for Success

Leading for Success! This presentation will be a break-out session by a highlighted school in the book "Turning High-Poverty Schools into High Performing Schools", by Drs. Parrett & Budge. The West Team will present on the school's methods and strategies of Distributed Leadership. Teacher led teams collect and analyze data towards a common goal; To develop a culture of achievement. Every teacher in the building is on one of five teams; 1.)Attendance 2.)Intervention 3.) Parent & Family Involvement 4.)Community Connections 5.)Cooperative Culture. Through the participation on a leadership team, teachers contribute to the success of the plan, setting goals, and helping to identify areas of concern, root causes as well as appropriate interventions to help students be successful and to raise student achievement.

Margo Scherich

Margo Scherich 4th grade teacher at Pugliese West Elementary in the Steubenville City School district and leads the Reading Wings Leading for Success Instructional Team. Mrs. Scherich has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from West Liberty University and has been teaching for 12 years.

Lynnett Gorman

Pugliese West Elementary is a small school located along the West Virginia border in Steubenville, Ohio. Despite the economic hardships and high poverty rates of this once thriving Steel Mill town, Pugliese West Elementary has found the key to academic success! This award winning public school has been recognized over the years by the Ohio Department of Education receiving many of the states accolades and academic awards. In 2018, West was named an ESEA National Distinguished School. The school's success was also highlighted in the second edition of the book "Turning High-Poverty Schools into High-Performing Schools" by William H. Parrett and Kathleen M. Budge.

Shelby Luther

Shelby Luther currently teaches an integrated Pre-school classroom at Pugliese West Elementary School in the Steubenville City School District and is the team leader of the Intervention Team. Mrs. Luther holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio University in Elementary Education and a Pre-School Special Education endorsement. Mrs. Luther received her Master of Science degree from Walden University in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and a certificate from Salem University in Educational Leadership/Administration.
