Using Children's Literature to Guide Science Inquiry: K-5

Friday February 9, 2018
3:00 - 4:30 PM
Room 108

The session explores resources to help engage elementary teachers and students in STEM and reading, including Picture-Perfect Science Lessons. Science provides an authentic and engaging content for reading, writing, and structured conversation. Integration of literacy and science also provides an opportunity for the development of critical skills such as reading and writing nonfiction text, representing information visually, and analyzing visual information. Inquiry can engage your students in reading nonfiction texts, discussing important science concepts, and writing to both develop understanding and share information. The session incorporates success stories from Title I schools that are successfully integration ELA and science standards through using children’s picture books to engage and teach STEM concepts.
