Stories from the Playground: How Student Voices and Stories Transform School Culture

Thursday February 8, 2018
2:00 - 3:00 PM
Room 120

Have you ever wondered what speaking to students on their own playgrounds can do to open up their feelings and hearts about the things that they might not want to really tell us or think we care about as educators? This session will share dozens of stories from the playground that were turned into writing tasks for schools to use as ways to reform their school climate, policies, politics, instructional goals, and so much more. Stories from students provide outlets for student voices to participate in reforming our schools. Students who use their voices to speak up about their own learning and their own classrooms can also capture their narratives for adults to use when reflecting on their school programming decisions. Stories from the playground will leave you with tears, joys, and victories in your hearts as you learn how to leverage student voices and stories for your school starting right now.
