Project Moving Forward: Close the Word Gap with the Innovative Rule of 3 Rap

Friday February 9, 2018
2:30 - 3:30 PM
Room 113

Explicit academic vocabulary and language development using the innovative RULE of 3 closes the achievement gap for English learners and socioeconomically disadvantaged learners. The RULE of 3 is the result of 12 years of research which included two U.S. Office grants. The highly-engaging RULE of 3 has students REHEARSE, ANALYZE and PRODUCE interdisciplinary words. The implementation of ANALYZE phonics, reading and writing resulted in early childhood students gaining 2-4 levels on language and literacy measures. 96% of English language learners met or exceeded their annual progress goals, far greater than the state's target of 62 percent. Title I students made double digit gains on High Stakes assessments. The achievement gap was closed from 12.8 to 1.9. The Moreno Valley RULE of 3 program received a Model of Excellence Award in 2017. It will be featured on a PBS Our Kids national series highlighting programs that can be replicated and have evidence of closing the achievement gap.
