CANCELLED: Closing the Achievement AND Opportunity Gap with Language Immersion Programs

Saturday February 10, 2018
10:30 - 11:30 AM
Room 120

PRESENTER HAS CANCELLED DUE TO TRAVEL PROBLEMS

There is significant research showing the success of language immersion programs in improving academic achievement for all students, while providing a world of other opportunities. Interestingly, some of the greatest gains have been found with inner city students and those coming from poverty. This may be one of the driving forces of the huge increase in immersion programs across the country over the last 10 years. Our Title I school implemented a dual immersion program 8 years ago and has seen the results of this program model. However, those results are dependent on well-designed programs. This session will highlight the important considerations for a new program, outline key tasks, and discuss possible pitfalls to a successful implementation.
