Close Reading Strategies

Students today must be able to successfully read and comprehend any genre of text and apply their comprehension to content knowledge and writing in multiple genres. As a result, participants will learn several close reading strategies that are easily applied and adapted across grade level and content area. With these strategies, participants will return to the classroom able to facilitate close reading with ease and will see immediate results in their students' reading comprehension.

As an adjunct faculty member, national conference presenter, Title 1 teacher, building administrator, district staff developer, and educational consultant, Alice Greiner has helped underperforming schools in urban districts and rural areas build strong student readers and writers who approach every day classroom work as well as assessments with skills and confidence. Her background in reading, writing, and assessment enable her to break down a big task into a series of small steps manageable for both teacher and student.
