12:30 - 2:00 PM
Room 119

How do schools and districts address the pervasive barriers to learning of students who are negatively impacted by mental health and trauma issues? This session will describe, explore, and apply a systematic approach based on the foundational work of Drs. Howard Adelman and Linda Taylor of the UCLA Center for Mental Health in Schools. The use of a unified system of supports and trauma-informed strategies will be shared by school leaders from Georgia and Alabama. Further experiences and performance outcomes from districts in South Carolina and Alabama will be presented. Participants will leave with the ability to apply the system in their districts and schools to assure the infrastructure and aligned strategies that promote equal opportunities for fragile children are in place.
