Access to Excellent Educators: The Arkansas Journey to Provide Equity Through Data

Thursday February 8, 2018
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Room 115

All students - regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, ability, economic condition, or zip code - deserve the freedom to learn from excellent educators. To ensure students have equitable access to excellent educators, the State of Arkansas has developed a plan to improve recruitment, preparation, placement, development, and retention of educators. The South Central Comprehensive Center and APA Consulting have worked with the Arkansas Department of Education to implement two key strategies of the plan: offering Equity Labs for local school districts and developing an Educator Shortage Predictor Model, which assists in understanding the current workforce characteristics, equity gaps, and potential future shortage areas by geography, grade band, and subject. This session will describe the data analyzed, the predictions made, and the mitigating strategies engaged in Arkansas.
