Visit the Meet the Author counter for the chance to chat with speaker Debbie Zacarian and purchase a signed copy of her book, "Mastering Academic Language: a Framework for Supporting Student Achievement."

About the book:

As educators, we take the language of school—academic language—for granted. However, many of our students do not possess the academic language skills that are needed to be successful in school and beyond. This book shows educators (teachers, coaches  supervisors and other stakeholders) how to help students to become fluent, confident speakers of academic language.  It uses a step-by-step, research-based approach to scaffolding K-12 instruction. Readers will find:

    •    Practical teaching strategies based on the four key facets of academic language fluency
    •    Richly detailed case studies about students’ experiences with academic language across the content areas
    •    Guidance on family involvement
    •    Thought-provoking study questions, along with performance assessment tools

It is an ideal resource for school- and district-wide Common Core initiatives, providing educators with the foundation and tools needed to ensure an accessible, engaging, and equitable education for all students.
