The Future is Now: Foundational Skills and Adaptive Technology
With over 25 years of gold standard research, all schools of American reading philosophy bow to the truth that early literacy experiences have a sizable impact on later outcomes and therefore deserve emphasis as part of a comprehensive ELA plan. It would also be widely agreed that today’s digital child is compelled by rich, sophisticated media—in other words, they are wired for technology. This session will explore the all-new foundational skills array in i-Ready, the design and intent of cutting-edge engagement levers—from motivating characters to engaging settings to storylines that give purpose to learning--that advance personalized, differentiated instruction in the foundational skills, giving all students the systematic practice they need to build automaticity. Student-approved and designed to appeal to a broad range of age groups, the whole-part-whole instruction that combines all five approaches to learning phonics allows students to learn skills in context, not isolation.
