Accelerating ELA Skills for At-Risk Students in a Blended Learning Model
This session will introduce participants to Pearson's Inspired Literacy (iLit) program which was developed from research-proven instructional models to dramatically improve ELA skills for At-Risk students including ELLs. Using a blended learning approach, teachers are engaging students through iLit to increase grade level gains of two or more years in a single year. Participants will be exposed to iLit's research design as well as evidence based longitudinal studies demonstrating successful use within schools across the country. A brief overview of the program components and implementation models will also be provided to participants.

Speakers
Kajsa Freborg
She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with K-12 Endorsements in Structured English Immersion and Reading. Before coming to Pearson, she was an educator for 14 years in Title I schools across Minnesota and Arizona as an Interventionist and Literacy Coach. Kajsa has a wealth of knowledge & experience in working with struggling readers and english language learners. Her speaking engagements include the Minnesota State Department of Education and the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth.
Brittany Martin
Brittany Martin is a native New Yorker who came to Pearson from the NYC Department of Education where she was a District Administrator in the Office of Teaching and Learning. Brittany’s commitment to improving educational outcomes for at-risk youth came on the heels of her time as a high school ELA teacher in Philadelphia and Harlem, NY where she worked largely with underserved students and struggling readers. At Pearson, Brittany takes great pride in knowing that her efforts to support the development of, and access to quality educational resources has such great potential to change the lives of children in greatest need and unlock their success story. Bri received her B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from the Pennsylvania State University and Masters in Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
