Palmer Lake Elementary School
Palmer Lake, CO
We believe that learning in an environment that honors strong community traditions is the perfect place for our children to build on past traditions in order to create a dynamic future.
Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
Palmer Lake is a small, tight-knit community. Our school is the hub for many community activities, such as, The Fourth of July Run, Back-to-School BBQ, Annual Garage Sale, Santa's Breakfast, and Arbor Day Town Hall Clean-up. These events bring our community together so everyone has a chance to participate, give back, and feel a sense of belonging. We value the partnership our staff has with the Palmer Lake community.
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
Our professional goals are:
Professional learning for all staff in how to effectively support EL students. Many of our EL students also receive Title services.
Examine our learning environment, including our beliefs about how to effectively serve all students.
Explain how Title I funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
Our Title 1 funds are used to fund Title 1 Reading Teacher salaries and support their learning through professional development. It is this team of 4 highly effective (and qualified) individuals that make up the core of our work with students who are struggling to learn how to read.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
Progress monitoring our students who receive Title 1 services is a collaborative effort. Three times through the year, our Title 1 teams meets to review each student's progress and make adjustments in their services as needed.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
The school culture at Palmer Lake is one that embraces our diverse population - both economically and ethnically. We have a committed and stable staff and many live in the community or near by. The staff see themselves as learners in the building and actively seek out and engage in professional learning. Our school has many traditions that promote a sense of belonging for our families and students. We believe that learning in an environment that honors strong community traditions is the perfect place for our children to build on past traditions in order to create a dynamic future.
